2025 Q1 Update

Welcome to the first update of 2025 and the end of March. We have managed to get out an article a week since the beginning of January, which is what I always intended. In the past the content would periodically enter a drought when I either ran out of content, motivation, discipline, or some combination of the three. Fortunately, living in Hawai’i has provided ample opportunity to write articles on experiences and travel around the Pacific. I’ll toss a bunch of photos in here to make the update post more interesting.

At the moment, we have two active article series: our trip to New Zealand in 2024 and my hunting trip to Molokai in December 2024. Since New Zealand was such a blast with so many different experiences, I might be about halfway done with writing about it. Jenny and I took over 3,500 pictures and videos while we were there, and the digital album has been a great source of reminding me of some of the things I already forgot. My hunt on Molokai was only three days long, so the end of that series is coming up quick, and I will have to come up with something else to write about to take its spot in the rotation.

A look ahead in the New Zealand series

In addition to the two series in rotation, I have another couple of firearms articles on the way, but my current collection is lacking due to location (Hawai’i). While writing about guns is how this blog got its start, it is difficult to write anything interesting about them while heavily restricted in both collection and ammunition supply.

I have been able to get back to competing in USPSA/IPSC competitions, and the Norseman Creative YouTube channel hosts all of my competition videos. To be honest, I mostly use it to practice lazily video editing, and to be able to review what I am doing wrong anywhere I have a data connection. Jenny and I also have a few travel and SCUBA videos to post, but I am considering making a separate channel to delineate between travel and shooting videos. In the meantime, check it out.

As my time at Air Force ROTC Detachment 175 at the University of Hawai’i in Manoa comes to an end, I will spin my series about my time as a Cadre back up. Being an instructor for AFROTC has been extremely rewarding, and not without excitement, frustration, and all the emotions of watching Cadets find their way towards their eventual commissioning.

I have to admit that I thought working in academia would allow me to pursue writing my next novel(s), but these Cadets have kept me almost non-stop busy since 2022. The third Norseman Consulting Novel is in the works, but I have to admit I haven’t made much meaningful progress for awhile. In addition to work commitments, I also have had a small change in heart on how I want that book to go. In the next couple of months, I intend to re-read what I have written and resume work on that particular yet-to-be named work of art. In the meantime, buy copies of the first two books in the shop.

With regard to The Dhofar Redemption, much of that book is done, and I am intending to start shopping it around for publication. It obviously needs quite a bit of editing, which I think a publisher would be willing to do. I am having fun working on The Dhofar Redemption again, in part because it has been so long since I started working on it that it feels like reading someone else’s book.

The Shop has done pretty well lately, the Scratch & Dent section is almost depleted thanks to sales both there and on eBay. The Shop remains the most direct way to support Norseman Creative, and I very much appreciate it. I still haven’t had anyone buy Reverse Fan Mail, which is a product that I thought was super funny. Apparently nobody else finds it funny but I am still not taking it off the shop. Here’s the deal, as a gift to the first person to buy Reverse Fan Mail, I will send them a signed copy of all four books and all the stickers in stock.

The most inexpensive way to support Norseman Creative is to like, comment, and share articles. Tell your friends about the literary gem that is Norseman Creative so they too can enjoy it (and drive my traffic up).

Thanks for sticking with me throughout the years. Lots of work to come, and here’s to many more years of bush-league authorship.
